Experience 'Winter Realms' & 'Winter’s Dream' at Lake George

posted by Teresa Farrell at 2023-12-02 17:43:00

This winter, the Adirondack  vacation destination of Lake George is trying something new: a full-season extravaganza of activities and events for all ages, called Winter Realms, that will be open from the end of November 2023 until early March 2024.

Located at the Charles R. Wood Park Festival Commons in Lake George, Winter Realms is billed as a “one-of-a-kind winter dreamscape,” featuring a plethora of winter wonderland attractions, events and activities set within a “magical forest” of trees decorated in colorful lights. Trails wind throughout the space, so you can take it all in on foot.

The list of charming attractions at Winter Realms  includes seasonal light displays along a .16-mile paved Mystic Light Walk and an ice sculpture garden featuring figures from the Chinese zodiac. Outdoor ice skating is available on a rink surrounding by seasonal lights, with skate rentals available.

The Snow Park is a perfect place for kids, with a “snow mount” for them to slide down, and snowman-making accessories like carrots and coal eyes available for free to help kids doll up the winter creations they’re welcome to make. Between November 24 and December 23, they’ll also want to stop by Santa’s Candy Cane Court, which offers the chance to meet Santa, take a photo, and tell him about their Christmas wishes.

Adults will enjoy the Polar Pub, a take on the European Après-ski tradition offering festive cocktails and beers to enjoy at the pub or walk around the realm with. An ice bar adds a fun and wintry twist to the experience. Snacks, treats and non-alcoholic drinks are available at the Picnic Plaza, which has places to eat and outdoor warming stations to cozy up to while enjoying the seasonal flavors. For an exclusive VIP experience, guests can rent a private space in the Arctic Alcove to warm up and take it all in.

Winter Realms’ location is right next to Fort William Henry, which is holding its own winter experience called Winter’s Dream. Winter’s Dream is a series of seasonal installations to immerse the senses and bring back memories of winters past. This nighttime-only attraction includes interactive exhibits with lights, music, video and more, it is a separate event from Winter Realms and requires a separate ticket; but the close proximity of the two makes them a perfect combination to enjoy in one day. Winter’s Dream opens in December and remains open through late March.

Before you head out to enjoy these unique Upstate New York activities, take note that separate tickets are required for both Winter Realms and Winter’s Dream and should be purchased in advance, as quantities are limited. Not all of the attractions are open every day; and as with any outdoor activity, the weather may cause sudden changes in schedule. Get up-to-date information and buy tickets for Winter Realms here, and for Winter’s Dream here.
