This unique hike on January 1 will be a Musicology Walking Tour around the 75-acre Fort Ontario National Registered District. Hikers will register and assemble inside the old stone fort and march about one mile at a moderate pace around the buildings, grounds, foundations, roads, and locations of battles and significant events in the fort’s 263-year history.

This free tour will be narrated and feature musical accompaniment at points of musical history.

In addition to the drive, folks willing to brave the cold can attend special Charity Walk Nights around the theme of “Taste of the Holidays.” One night involves sampling wine and beer while enjoying live music, and another will feature artisan craft offerings from Albany’s restaurants.

At the end of your drive through the Lights, visit Washington Park Lake House to join your favorite reindeer and friends as they bring fun and mystery to the holiday season. The Lake House is filled with crafts and refreshments and Santa will be there through Dec. 23.
 

Dickens Christmas

Step back in time to 1842 and celebrate Christmas the old-fashioned way in beautiful and charming Skaneateles in the Finger Lakes Region. Charles Dickens and his cast of more than 50 characters interact with residents and visitors in the streets, stores and restaurants. Throughout the village, enjoy lively acts, live music, unique shopping, wonderful food and horse and wagon rides around the Village. This is a free event.

An annual tradition, the celebration begins the day after Thanksgiving and runs every Saturday and Sunday through December 23, from noon to 4 pm, plus December 24 from noon - 2:30 pm.
 

Santa Express Train Ride

There’s no better way to celebrate the Holiday Season than a train ride with Santa and his helpers. The train is beautifully decorated from the lights strung along the outside to the garland and ornaments on the inside. Bring a small gift with your child’s name attached to be given as a surprise from Santa himself on the train. Sneak it behind the Depot to the Reindeer Shack the day of your ride.

The ride runs about 2 ½ hours and reservations are required. Children under 3 are Free!!!
 

North Pole Express Train Ride

All aboard for trip through the winter wonderland that is Central New York! Enjoy the beautifully decorated Milford Depot, passenger train, track side light displays, Christmas music and a stop at the North Pole Station as we take a casual nighttime ride along the Susquehanna River, with holiday treats and refreshments for all. Our North Pole Express runs about 2 hours.

Trains will be heated if the weather warrants it, but passengers are advised to dress warmly. Reservations are required and children young than 3 are FREE!!!

In existence for more than 30 years, the Oswego Music Hall offers mostly acoustical musicians every other Saturday night from September to June. On concert evenings, a large empty hall is transformed into an intimate venue replete with candlelit tables, professional staging and sound; as well as an array of freshly baked desserts, hot cider and freshly brewed coffee.

This week, the Burns & Kristy Band take the stage. This quartet is described as "Indie-folky-pop with a spiritual, whimsical attitude" and features Terry Burns, Ron Kristy, Rich DePaolo and Doug Robinson. Burns and Kristy met in Nashville, after many years as independent musicians and singer/songwriters. Married in 2004, they returned to Ithaca where they launched their debut CD in 2012 to rave reviews. The single "Blue Paper Boat" from that CD was a Top 3 Finalist in the International Acoustic Music Awards.

DePaolo has been a prominent figure in Ithaca's music scene for many years and in many genres. Robinson as well, and tours frequently in Europe and Canada with the Burns Sisters Band, British guitar virtuoso, Martin Simpson and others, performing ragtime, Latin, blues, gypsy-swing and jazz.

The miniature railroad exhibit features past and present toy and scale model trains including an N-scale train layout, a 1950s-themed O-gauge layout, a Thomas the Tank Engine layout, various photographs and films of locomotives and railroad operations, and a display of model firetrucks.

Admission, parking, coffee and hot chocolate are free for the event and the fort’s museum gift shop will be open for holiday gift shopping. Proceeds from the sales benefit Friends of Fort Ontario work with the fort including programs, interpretations, and special events, publications, restoration, and AmeriCorps staffing for the 2019 season.

The Oswego Valley Railroad Association presents a Christmas-town Express model train display in the Enlisted Men’s Barracks at Fort Ontario State Historic Site on East Fourth Street in Oswego. The exhibit will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every weekend in December with a long weekend finale December 27 to 30. It is free and open to the public.

The miniature railroad exhibit features past and present toy and scale model trains including an N-scale train layout, a 1950s-themed O-gauge layout, a Thomas the Tank Engine layout, various photographs and films of locomotives and railroad operations, and a display of model firetrucks.

Admission, parking, coffee and hot chocolate are free for the event and the fort’s museum gift shop will be open for holiday gift shopping. Proceeds from the sales benefit Friends of Fort Ontario work with the fort including programs, interpretations, and special events, publications, restoration, and AmeriCorps staffing for the 2019 season.

Green Lakes has over 20 miles of hiking trails, so if you if this hike isn’t for you, find help you find one you may do on your own!

For a first class ride, travel to the North Pole in the Cocoa Class car! Mrs. Claus and the Cocoa Chef will be the hostess’ for you in the first-class car. Families will be served cookies and hot chocolate in souvenir mugs while being seated at table seating.

The Oswego Valley Railroad Association presents a Christmas-town Express model train display in the Enlisted Men’s Barracks at Fort Ontario State Historic Site on East Fourth Street in Oswego. The exhibit will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every weekend in December with a long weekend finale December 27 to 30. It is free and open to the public.

The miniature railroad exhibit features past and present toy and scale model trains including an N-scale train layout, a 1950s-themed O-gauge layout, a Thomas the Tank Engine layout, various photographs and films of locomotives and railroad operations, and a display of model firetrucks.

Admission, parking, coffee and hot chocolate are free for the event and the fort’s museum gift shop will be open for holiday gift shopping. Proceeds from the sales benefit Friends of Fort Ontario work with the fort including programs, interpretations, and special events, publications, restoration, and AmeriCorps staffing for the 2019 season.

The Oswego Valley Railroad Association presents a Christmas-town Express model train display in the Enlisted Men’s Barracks at Fort Ontario State Historic Site on East Fourth Street in Oswego. The exhibit will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every weekend in December with a long weekend finale December 27 to 30. It is free and open to the public.

The miniature railroad exhibit features past and present toy and scale model trains including an N-scale train layout, a 1950s-themed O-gauge layout, a Thomas the Tank Engine layout, various photographs and films of locomotives and railroad operations, and a display of model firetrucks.

Admission, parking, coffee and hot chocolate are free for the event and the fort’s museum gift shop will be open for holiday gift shopping. Proceeds from the sales benefit Friends of Fort Ontario work with the fort including programs, interpretations, and special events, publications, restoration, and AmeriCorps staffing for the 2019 season.
