Prospect Mountain
Prospect Mountain has picnic facilities and restroom available at the summit, as well as self-guided hiking & nature trails
One of the most popular hikes/drives in the area is Prospect Mountain, a 2030-foot summit with magnificent 100-mile panoramic views of Lake George and the Adirondacks. Because its steep grade makes it quite difficult in spots, this hike is not recommended for young children.
At the summit, take a ride on the Prospect Shuttle (an open-air view-mobile during the summer season and an enclosed van during cooler months) to the peak for the panoramic view. Picnic facilities and restrooms are available at the summit, as well as self-guided hiking & nature trails which are well marked.
At top of the mountain, visitors will also notice remnants of the Prospect Mountain Cable Incline Railway, which was at one time the longest cable railroad in the world. Built in 1895, it was used to transport wealthy visitors to the Prospect Mountain House, a hotel previously only accessible by horse-drawn carriage. The hotel eventually burned down, but its fireplace is still visible today atop the mountain.
