Spend National Marina Day at Chautauqua Marina and rent a boat or purchase safety equipment for your boat. In addition to the open house, visitors are invited to check out the marina’s 750’ waterfront erosion protection project where plants natural to the environment have been planted to help to reduce shoreline erosion.

There will also be a free presentation, “Lake Weeds,” from noon to 1 p.m. presented by the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History. falcon? These are just a few of the birds you’ll encounter on a guided walk through the fields
and meadows of the Washington County Grasslands IBA (Important Bird Area).

Join Friends of the IBA (FIBA) Executive Director Laurie LaFond to see these and other native birds at the peak of breeding season - including some of NY’s rarest species! Dozens of Bobolinks, Savannah sparrows, Eastern meadowlarks, American kestrels and more highlight a private walk on 64 acres of prime wildlife habitat FIBA is working to purchase.

For those who just can’t get enough of this breeding bird bounty, there will also be a visit NYS DEC’s Wildlife
Management Area (WMA) if time allows.

FEE of $10 of individuals, $20 for families includes a discounted one-year membership to FIBA; free to members.

The Lighthouses of Oswego is the second installment to the 2018 History Lecture Series and will celebrate the release of "Lighthouses & Life-Saving at Oswego," a new book co-authored by the museum’s curator, Michael R. Pittavino and former chairman of the Oswego Lighthouse Development Committee, Theodore J. Panayotoff,

The lecture features Pittavino, who will present a brief historical overview of the four main lighthouses that have stood watch over Oswego Harbor since 1822, making use of both images from Lighthouses & Life Saving at Oswego and the Maritime Museum’s archival collections.

The event is FREE and open to the public and includes a book signing.

The book will be available for purchase June 18 and is currently available for pre-sale at the Treasure Chest Gift Shop, or by calling the Maritime Museum.

K & G Lodge in Oswego hosts their 18th annual All Ladies’ Fishing Tournament “Fishing for Freedom” contest with proceeds to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP).

All participants must be lady anglers, aged 16 and above. Teams can be made up of two to four women and each boat is permitted one captain and one crew member. Everyone aboard the boat must have a valid NYS fishing license.

The tournament begins with a mandatory captains’ meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 29 and the captain and at least one lady angler from each team must be present.

Fishing begins with a shotgun start at 6 a.m. Saturday, June 30 and there are no restrictions on where the boats can fish; however, they must be back inside the harbor walls by 12:30 p.m.

Weigh-ins begin at 1 p.m. at Wrights Landing Marina’s picnic pavilion where pizza and soda will be served. Teams will be able to weigh in their best six fish.

Entry fee is $295 for each team. K & G Lodge offers discounted lodging rates for those participating in the event.
