Lewis Black is one of the most prolific and popular performers working today. He executes a brilliant trifecta as a stand-up comedian, actor, and author. Receiving critical acclaim, he performs more than 200 nights annually, to sold-out audiences throughout Europe, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States. He is one of a few performers to sell out multiple renowned theaters, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Brooks Atkinson Theatre, New York City Center, the Main Stage at the Mirage in Las Vegas and a sold-out Broadway run at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City. His live performances provide a cathartic release of anger and disillusionment for his audience. He is a passionate performer who is a more pissed-off optimist than a mean-spirited curmudgeon. Lewis is the rare comic who can cause an audience to laugh themselves into incontinence while making compelling points about the absurdity of our world.

Over the last four decades, Béla Fleck has made a point of boldly going where no banjo player has gone before, a musical journey that has earned him 15 Grammys in nine different fields, including Country, Pop, Jazz, Instrumental, Classical and World Music. But his roots are in bluegrass, and that’s where he returns with his first bluegrass tour in 24 years, My Bluegrass Heart. My Bluegrass Heart is the third chapter of a trilogy which began with the 1988 album, Drive, and continued in 1991 with The Bluegrass Sessions. Fleck’s band will spotlight a multi-generational gamut of the best of bluegrass players, all sporting a myriad of Grammy Awards and nominations, as well as gigantic piles of IBMA awards for their instruments: fiddler Stuart Duncan, mandolinist Sierra Hull, multi-instrumentalist Justin Moses, bassist/multi-instrumentalist Mark Schatz, and Bryan Sutton on guitar.

he Dude of Life Band is a five-person, genre-bending group led by the Dude of Life (aka Steve Pollak). For several decades, The Dude’s been writing songs in an ongoing collaboration with Phish and first teamed up with Phish's frontman Trey Anastasio while the two were in high school. The Dude wrote lyrics for a number of Phish’s most beloved songs, including Fluffhead, Run Like an Antelope, and Suzy Greenberg, and released the album Crimes of the Mind, recorded with Phish for Elektra Records, in 1994. In recent years, The Dude’s developed a more refined sound. A recent burst of creativity has yielded an album’s worth of new material which was recently recorded by producer Bryce Goggin. The Dude of Life Band is Steve Pollak on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Fred Scholl on lead guitar, Charlie de Saint Phalle on bass, Doug Schneider on drums, and special guest Jon Liebowtiz of God Street Wine on keyboard.

The Cadleys are one of the most popular acoustic bands in the Northeast. Following in the tradition of great male-female duets like George Jones and Tammy Wynette, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, and Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, John and Cathy show how two voices blended in seamless harmony can produce one powerful sound. In concert you’ll hear The Cadleys perform everything from traditional mountain ballads and bluegrass classics like “Bury Me Beneath the Willow” and Bill Monroe’s “Blue and Lonesome,” to Alison Krauss’ “The Lucky One,” to the Louvin Brother’s “Cash on the Barrelhead,” to Cathy’s knockout version of “Over the Rainbow.” You’ll also hear some innovative acoustic arrangements of favorite Beatles tunes like “I Will,” plus a generous sampling of John’s original songs, many of which have been recorded by national bluegrass artists like Jim Hurst, Missy Raines, Tony Trischka, Amy Gallatin, and Lou Reid, . About the Music Hall: In existence for more than 30 years, the Oswego Music Hall offers mostly acoustical musicians every other Saturday night from September to June. On concert evenings, a large empty hall is transformed into an intimate venue replete with candlelit tables, professional staging and sound; as well as an array of freshly baked desserts, hot cider and freshly brewed coffee. Family friendly. Wheelchair accessible.

Beginning with her first book, Metropolitan Life in 1978, Fran Lebowitz has emerged as one of our more acerbic social critics. Her witty and pointed observations about such diverse topics as New York City tourists, art, and politics led The New York Times Book Review to call her an “important humorist in the classic tradition.” Most recently she appears in the documentary “Pretend It’s a City,” with Martin Scorsese, exploring her stories, interviews, and love of New York.

Join us for an evening with Fran Lebowitz as part of the Friends of Central Library's Rosamond Gifford Author Series.

The curious thing about being a fan of brasshouse? You’re pretty much talking about being into one solitary but extremely unforgettable band: the amusingly monikered Too Many Zooz. The musical style was “branded” by drummer King of Sludge, who recognized that there was no worthy existing classification for the New York trio, whose other two members are the equally unclassifiable Leo P (saxophone) and Matt Doe (trumpet). TMZ has performed with the likes of Beyonce at the Billboard Music Awards and their single “Warriors” racked up major play on Radio One.
