Since 2015, downtown Binghamton has been transformed into a moving art exhibition each September when the annual LUMA Projection Arts Festival comes to town.

Taking place on Friday and Saturday nights, September 8 and 9 in 2023, the festival features larger-than-life art pieces in the form of projection mapping and light installations shown across the backdrop of downtown buildings. Each piece and each artist is different, with some incorporating immersive live performances or interactive elements, others creating a psychedelic experience with the cascading lights, and all bringing a completely unique perspective to the city’s downtown and the projection arts in general.

The event is largely free, but some specialty exhibits may require admission fees. More information and an updated lineup of artists being featured can be found at lumafestival.com.
