Just 9 miles west of Lake Placid, the village of Saranac Lake is not only a beautiful Adirondack mountain town with crystal blue lakes and countless hikes to amazing vistas, but its century-old buildings and family-owned shops take you back in time to an engaging and simpler way of life. Its lively downtown is brimming with funky shops and diverse restaurants as well as galleries, gardens, artists' studios, gift shops, park benches and other small businesses.

 
This family-friendly community invites you to bring your kiddos to the Adirondack Carousel and playground in William Morris Park or take stroll together down RiverWalk’s brick path alongside the Saranac River as it winds through town. Enjoy an Adirondack-style meal in one of the village’s restaurants or get a take-out meal and sit at the picnic tables in Riverside Park.

 
With no shortage of scenic trails and blue skies, Saranac Lake offers outdoor adventure any time of year. Enjoy biking, birding, fishing, and wildflower hunts as spring bursts through winter’s end. Summer adds swimming and relaxing by clear, refreshing water, hiking on one of the beautiful trails or a climbing one of the six mountains surrounding Saranac Lake. Fall brings more family-fun with harvest activities, great paddling and more hiking with great photo opportunities as the area comes alive with color. Since 1897, the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival is the longest-running event of its kind in the eastern U.S. and one of the village’s biggest attractions. This 10-day celebration includes parades, games, exhibits, celebrations, dazzling fireworks display to open and close the event and the festival’s “piece de resistance” – The Ice Palace made from the ice right out of Lake Flower.
