Historic Fort Ontario Overlooks the Great Lake
Fort Ontario is the Only Fort in the United States that has seen service in all U.S. military conflicts ..
Fort Ontario in Oswego is the only fort in the United States that has seen service in all U.S. military conflicts beginning with the French and Indian War of 1754-63. Originally built in 1755, this strategic fort on the Seaway Trail in Oswego, was destroyed in battle and rebuilt three times.
The current star-shaped Fort Ontario State Historic Site overlooks Lake Ontario and dates back to the early 1840s. It offers a dramatic view of the surrounding lake and Oswego harbor and tours of the fort are offered daily (spring, summer and fall).
Along with a fascinating Museum of its own, the Fort has a gift shop and the Safe Haven Holocaust Museum next door. Biking paths circle the complex, and an expansive picnic area is ideal for sightseeing, walking, kite flying and exploring.
