Fort Ontario in Oswego is the only fort in the United States that has seen service in all U.S. military conflicts beginning with the French and Indian War of 1754-63. Originally built in 1755, this strategic fort on the Seaway Trail in Oswego, was destroyed in battle and rebuilt three times.

The current star-shaped Fort Ontario State Historic Site overlooks Lake Ontario and dates back to the early 1840s. It offers a dramatic view of the surrounding lake and Oswego harbor and tours of the fort are offered daily (spring, summer and fall).

Along with a fascinating Museum of its own, the Fort has a gift shop and the Safe Haven Holocaust Museum  next door. Dramatic re-enactments of historic events take place throughout the year, biking paths circle the complex, and an expansive picnic area is ideal for sightseeing, walking, kite flying and exploring.
