Nightmare Hayrides on Sommerville Street

Jump on the scariest hayride in Western New York – if you dare!

Nightmare Hayride is a 25-minute tractor drawn hayride that will lead you down a creepy haunted path with live scary creatures. But that's not all of the frightening fun! You will then have to make your way through the Gothic Chamber, Haunted Wooden Maze, and through the Haunted Barn with the Vortex Tunnel.

Nightmare Hayride also offers a cook shack which serves up some spooktacular food!

There are seven tractors running continuously, so no reservation is needed. There is a cost for admission (children 5 and under are free) and gives you access to all the haunted attractions.

Experience The Farmers' Museum during the most haunting time of the year. Join museum guides as they lead you about the shadowy grounds and recount the many mysteries and ghostly happenings that have occurred in the Museum's historic village.

Walk through the darkened 19th-century village by lantern, stopping at the Blacksmith's Shop, Bump Tavern, and other buildings. Guides tell ghostly tales adapted from the Louis C. Jones classic, Things That Go Bump in the Night, a timeless record of haunted history and restless spirits in New York State. You will hear stories associated with the museum's buildings, such as the tale of a young ghost sighted by staff and guests in Bump Tavern and the mysterious early morning strikes on the blacksmith's anvil.

See a theatrical performance of Edgar Allan Poe’s haunting “The Tell-Tale Heart” that will leave you aghast.

Over the course of the weekend, we offer a variety of classes and events that provide a structured yet relaxed stay.

On Saturday, spend the morning at our Half-Day Meditation Workshops. The course is followed by a vegetarian lunch with the community and a quiet afternoon to enjoy the World Peace Café and bookstore. In the evening we will have our regular Buddhist chanted prayers in English which you are welcome to attend free of charge.

On Sunday morning, you'll get the opportunity to receive teachings from our Resident Teacher Gen Samten Kelsang at Prayers for World Peace Meditation Class.

During this program we will discuss survival mindset and psychology, including defining the rules of 3: A person can live for 3 minutes without breathing or with severe bleeding. 3 hours without treatment from hypothermia or heat stroke. 3 days without water. 3 weeks without food. The rules of 3 determine SURVIVAL PRIORITIES. Your experienced instructor will teach, demonstrate and be HANDS-ON with priorities: FIRST AID – SHELTER- FIRE- WATER- SIGNALING- FOOD, All gear and teaching aids will be provided during this course.

Afterwards, Dirt Road Camp is hosting a chicken barbecue with music, beer, and a tour of the mountain. Should you sign up for this survival skills course, we highly suggest booking a site at our camp in advance, as space is limited.

Enjoy an evening with 1969 Woodstock alum, David Sanborn of Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

In his three-and-a-half decade career, David Sanborn has released 24 albums, won six Grammy Awards, and has had eight Gold albums and one Platinum album. Having inspired countless other musicians, Dave has worked in many genres which typically blend instrumental pop, R&B and lately, more and more traditional jazz. He released his first solo album Taking Off in 1975, but has been playing the saxophone since before he was in high school when he was inspired by the great Chicago blues artists near his hometown of St. Louis.

The Russian Ballet Theatre’s new production will captivate audiences with time-honored Russian traditions while adding new choreography, hand painted sets, radiant hand sewn costumes, artistic hair designs and special effects makeup.

The Oswego County Historical Society hosts its annual Victorian Christmas Open House with the special theme this year of “Walk Back in Time.” Held at the Richardson-Bates House Museum, the museum dining room will be fully decorated in the style of the Victorian Christmas celebrations that took place in the decade of the 1880s while the Christmas tree will be dressed with many of the society’s collection of period children’s toys of the Victorian era and lit with Victorian Christmas clip-on candles (LED instead of live flame)

The event will also include a display of Victorian era ladies’ dresses of the winter season, Christmas shopping in the gift shop, and cookies and punch. Some individuals may be wandering around in period appropriate clothing, and all guests are invited to wear anything looking Victorian as well!

Over the course of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, we offer a variety of classes and events that provide a structured yet relaxed stay.

On Saturday, spend the morning at our Half-Day Meditation Workshops. The course is followed by a vegetarian lunch with the community and a quiet afternoon to enjoy the World Peace Café and bookstore. In the evening we will have our regular chanted prayers which you are welcome to attend free of charge.

On Sunday morning, you'll get the opportunity to receive teachings from our Resident Teacher Gen Samten Kelsang at Prayers for World Peace Meditation Class.

At the end of your drive through the Lights, visit Washington Park Lake House to join your favorite reindeer and friends as they bring fun and mystery to the holiday season. The Lake House is filled with crafts and refreshments and Santa will be there through Dec. 23.
