Oakwood Cemetery
Established in 1848, Oakwood Cemetery and the Earl Chapel are world-class architectural treasures and a National Historic Landmark.
Established in 1848, Oakwood Cemetery and the Earl Chapel are world-class architectural treasures and a National Historic Landmark. Prominent Americans such as Uncle Sam Wilson, Russell Sage, and Emma Willard, at least 14 members of the United States House of Representatives and the founders of both Troy and Lansingburgh are buried at Oakwood.
Today, in addition to being a working burial ground, the cemetery’s sprawling 280 acres invites visitors to stroll through history while enjoying wooded parkland, trails, ponds, sculptures, and stonework.
Overlooking Hudson River Valley, the cemetery provides spectacular panoramic views and the grounds are also enjoyed by the community for special events such as galas, concerts, races, and weddings.
