An easy train ride from New York City, Beacon is an up-and-coming artist community noted for its proximity to numerous historic sites and large cities. Set on the eastern shore of the Hudson River with Mount Beacon as its backdrop, Beacon is also a popular destination for outdoor lovers.
Originally an industrial city, Beacon experienced a revival beginning in 2003 when Dia:Beacon set up shop in the former Nabisco Box Printing Co. and quickly became one of the largest modern art museums in the United States. The city’s cultural revival breathed life into its Main Street which offers an easy stroll to find farm-to-table restaurants, world-class art, and even a Doctor Who-themed café.
Beacon is close to historic sites like Bannerman's Castle and Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site as well as West Point, the oldest continuously occupied military post in the United States.
The Howland Cultural Center offers a wonderful array of visual and performance art events while the noted Beacon Arts’ Second Saturday is a citywide street fair celebrating the arts and featuring gallery exhibitions, music, food tasting, and more, continuing all day and well into the night.

Beacon was named to commemorate the historic beacon fires that blazed forth from the summit of the Fishkill Mountains to alert the Continental Army about British troop movements.
