Visit enchanted Sunnyside, the historic home of author Washington Irving, best known for his short stories, such as “Rip Van Winkle” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Irving lived the last 25 years of his life in the village of Tarrytown and his meticulously restored home is filled with the author’s possessions including his writing desk and books.
Originally a Dutch farmer’s house, the home is now a property of the non-profit Historic Hudson Valley and open for tours. Guides, costumed in formal dress of the period, explain how Irving designed house and grounds himself to reflect his romantic views of art, nature, and history.
Sunnyside also hosts special seasonal events.
