Set in the midst of the Hudson River just south of Beacon, Bannerman Castle on Pollepel Island more familiarly known as Bannerman Island, is rooted in ancient Indian and Dutch folklore and Revolutionary War tales.

Partially burned in a fire in the late 1960s, the castle fortress once belonged to Scotsman and entrepreneur Frank Bannerman’s at the turn of 20th century. This replica of a Scottish castle was built not as a home, but as an as a storage facility for his growing surplus business and immense collection of weapons.

Open to the public, guided tours of the island are available from May through October along with special events like alfresco theater productions, movie screenings, and live musical performances. The island can be accessed by several Hudson Valley towns, including Beacon.
