Warner Castle and the Sunken Gardens
Warner Castle and the Sunken Gardens are part of the Highland Historical District and is owned by the County of Monroe.
Built by Horatio Gates Warner in 1854, Warner Castle was modeled after the ancestral castle of the Clan Douglas, which captivated his fancy during a visit to Scotland. Warner, a prominent Rochester attorney, business man, newspaper publisher and editor, added a sunken garden to complete the magical ambiance of his residence.
