Margaretville's location in the Catskill Park and its proximity to New York City has made it a favorite destination for vacationing, skiing, golfing, white water rafting and so many more outdoor activities. Surrounded by many towns, villages and hamlets rich in history, you will find an abundance of opportunities to dine, shop or just relax and enjoy the view.

Margaretville was the hometown of Dr. Orvan Hess, inventor of the fetal heart monitor and one of the first doctors to successfully treat a patient with penicillin. It is also known as the “Cauliflower Capital of the World” as the vegetable was first cultivated in Margaretville in 1891 and thrived in the region. The heyday of the cauliflower industry in the Catskill Mountains ran from the early 1900s through the 1940s and today, Margaretville proudly hosts an annual Cauliflower Festival every September.

The movie, “You Can Count On Me,” starring Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo (2000), was filmed in Margaretville as was the music video of "Sugar, We're Goin Down" by Fall Out Boy (2005).
