Whether it is fishing, relaxing or discovering a unique historic landmark, Salmon River Lighthouse Marina offers the chance to enjoy all three. Families, fishermen and lighthouse lovers from around the world have spent time taking in the beautiful surroundings, sunsets and beaches in this area of New York State.

Located at mouth of the Salmon River in the village of Port Ontario near Pulaski, the Salmon River (Selkirk) Lighthouse was activated in 1838, but when the canal proposal that would have linked Selkirk to several major markets was rerouted, the Salmon River Lighthouse was deactivated in 1859. However, in 1989, a solar light was installed in the lantern room and the lighthouse was reactivated. It is one of only four lighthouses in the United States to retain its original bird-cage lantern.

Today, this historic lighthouse is also one of three lighthouses along the Seaway Trail that visitors can rent for overnight stays. Spend the night or a week in the 1838 fully operational, three-bedroom Selkirk Lighthouse or in one of the marina’s three rental cottages featuring a massive span of private, soft, sandy beach right on the shore of Lake Ontario.

NOTE: While the cottages are pet-friendly, pets are not allowed in the lighthouse.
