Horse Island Lighthouse
Erected in 1831, Horse Island Light on Lake Ontario is also known as Sackets Harbor Light
Erected in 1831, Horse Island Light, also known as Sackets Harbor Light, is located on Horse Island in Sackets Harbor on Lake Ontario. Originally lighted with eight lamps and the same number of reflectors, the light was upgraded in 1857 with a fifth-order Fresnel lens.
When the structure fell into disrepair, a new brick lighthouse was built and the original structure was tore down. Today, the lighthouse is privately owned and not open to the public. Unfortunately, due to trees that have grown up on the island, only the top of it is visible from Sackets Harbor.
Please Note: This lighthouse is privately owned and not open to the general public.
