Camillus Sim's Store Museum
The Sims' Store Museum is located within the beautiful Camillus Erie Canal Park
The Camillus Sim's Store Museum is a replica of the original Sims canal store, constructed by John Sims prior to 1860, which was located on the Erie Canal about two miles east of the present location. It is located within the beautiful Camillus Erie Canal Park, which is part of the Town of Camillus Park system as well as the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor Upstate New York.
Originally located closer to Gere Lock and Belle Isle, the store supplied the boats that had to stop there before entering the lock and/or stopping at Belle Isle. Along with the necessities the store provided, it was also a gathering place for the general population of Amboy.
The museum’s Steam Engine Exhibit is a rare opportunity to see a fully restored, turn-of-the-century steam powered power plant and learn about the technology that was “hot” during the industrial revolution of America.
