For more than 80 years, Warner Bros. animation has been bringing joy to all ages. Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies in particular gave us some of the most iconic animated characters—Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird, and more.

Animation is a complex process: from concept to sketching, drawing, and coloring, all before filming even begins. In The Art of Warner Bros. Cartoons, take a peek behind the scenes at sketches, model sheets, paintings, and animation cels that went into creating the famous films from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s.

The beginnings of animation—before Warner Bros. and even before film—is also explored through a selection of objects from the museum’s collection. In addition to the original artifacts in the galleries, the exhibition includes 15 Warner Bros. animated shorts, played on a loop in the Curtis Theatre during museum hours.

Location: 1 E. Fourth St., Oswego, NY, 13126
Phone: 1-315-343-4711
The OPEN HOUSE event at Fort Ontario State Historic Site and the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum commemorates the 75th anniversary of the 3 September 1944 Open House at the Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter, the only camp for victims of the Holocaust located in the United States during World War II.

In 1944 the Open House celebrated the end of the 30-day Quarantine imposed on the Fort Ontario refugees upon their arrival by ship in NYC on 3 August 1944. For the first time since the refugees arrived at Fort Ontario, the Shelter was opened to Oswego residents and others to enter and observe refugee living conditions and activities. The Open House also marked the beginning of a pass system enabling refugees to leave the Shelter on a short term basis.

From 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM the Open House will include daytime self-guided walking tours of the former Shelter using 1944-46 photographs and plans, and free admission to the old stone fort and the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum on E. 7th Street. From 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM the old stone fort will open for a program of evening speakers, music, refreshments, and sky lantern launch.

Ronnie Milsap is a multiple Grammy Award-winning country music singer and pianist with five decades of charted singles and 40 No. 1 hits. A blind performer, Milsap’s songs were frequent cross-over hits during the 1970s and 1980s.

Creating a new way of recording (being blind, his hyper-attuned hearing led him to create/build what is now known as Ronnie’s Place, where the new album, the Duets, was captured), he broke genre rules and became one of the biggest pop/AC and even R&B artists of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. Six Grammys. CMA Entertainer of the Year and four Album of the Year Awards. The first country video played on MTV (the ironic “She Loves My Car”). An early champion of NFL star Mike Reid, who wrote many of Ronnie’s #1 hits and who’d go on to write Bonnie Raitt’s second most enduring classic “I Can’t Make You Love Me.”

This full-day symposium features national speakers discussing major issues affecting family businesses.

From the Peak Family Business Survey…Even though nearly 70% of family businesses would like to pass their business on to the next generation, only 30% will actually be successful at transitioning to the next generation.

According to the Family Business Alliance…More than 30% of all family owned businesses make the transition into the second generation. 12% will still be viable into the third generation, with only 3% of all family businesses operating at the fourth-generation level and beyond.

Do you have family business clients you want to see flourish in the next generation? That’s why we are inviting you to attend the 2019 Upstate NY Family Business Day Symposium. Let us help your family business beat the statistics.
