Held each year from Thanksgiving through the first week of January, this captivating display of lights features towering holiday displays, larger-than-life Land of Oz, a Twinkling Fantasy Forest, colorful arches, a delightful Victorian Village, animated scenes and more! There is a fee.

Polar Express Train Ride

Live the magic of the classic Polar Express™ Train Ride story with the Adirondack Scenic Railroad. Depart from Utica’s Union Station and travel north while being served hot chocolate and cookies, interacting with Cocoa Chefs, and listening to Liam Neeson’s reading of The POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride, by Chris van Allsburg.

When you arrive at the North Pole (Holland Patent, NY), Santa will board the train, spending time with each and every family during the return trip and giving children the first present of Christmas (a silver bell, just like in the book or movie)! For a first class ride, travel to the North Pole in the Cocoa Class car! Mrs. Claus and the Cocoa Chef will be the hostess’ for you in the first-class car. Families will be served cookies and hot chocolate in souvenir mugs while being seated at table seating.

Santa will visit with each and every family during the return trip. Children (and parents!) are encouraged to come in pajamas.

This one-of-a-kind event offers drive-through visitors a route that winds through the grounds, illuminated with LED light displays. The magic then continues outside of the car by strolling the illuminated street and exploring each of the buildings for unique holiday activities, shows, and more.

This family-fun event also features interactive children’s games, a kids craft area, letters to Santa, a seat at the Kandy Kane's Holiday Magic Show and the North Pole Experience with Santa.
 

Santa Express Train Ride

There’s no better way to celebrate the Holiday Season than a train ride with Santa and his helpers. The train is beautifully decorated from the lights strung along the outside to the garland and ornaments on the inside. Bring a small gift with your child’s name attached to be given as a surprise from Santa himself on the train. Sneak it behind the Depot to the Reindeer Shack the day of your ride.

The ride runs about 2 ½ hours and reservations are required. Children under 3 are Free!!!

In addition to the drive, folks willing to brave the cold can attend special Charity Walk Nights around the theme of “Taste of the Holidays.” One night involves sampling wine and beer while enjoying live music, and another will feature artisan craft offerings from Albany’s restaurants.

At the end of your drive through the Lights, visit Washington Park Lake House to join your favorite reindeer and friends as they bring fun and mystery to the holiday season. The Lake House is filled with crafts and refreshments and Santa will be there through Dec. 23.

 

A Victorian Christmas Open House

The Oswego County Historical Society hosts its annual Victorian Christmas Open House with the special theme this year of “Walk Back in Time.” Held at the Richardson-Bates House Museum, the museum dining room will be fully decorated in the style of the Victorian Christmas celebrations that took place in the decade of the 1880s while the Christmas tree will be dressed with many of the society’s collection of period children’s toys of the Victorian era and lit with Victorian Christmas clip-on candles (LED instead of live flame)

The event will also include a display of Victorian era ladies’ dresses of the winter season, items for sale in the gift shop, and cookies and punch. Some individuals may be wandering around in period appropriate clothing, and the public is invited to wear anything looking Victorian as well!

The event is free and open to the public.

The Oak Ridge Boys Christmas

For almost thirty years, Country Music Hall of Fame members the Oak Ridge Boys have been a part of their fans’ holiday seasons with their annual Christmas tour. A mixture of traditional and contemporary songs makes up the set list.

A highlight of the evening is the much-loved “rocking chair” segment where each BOY rocks by the fireplace and shares personal thoughts about Christmas. Every time The Oak Ridge Boys step before an audience, they bring to the audience over four decades of charted singles and 50 years of tradition. They have one of the most distinctive and recognizable sounds in the music industry.

The 26th annual edition of Dickens Christmas opens at noon, Nov. 29, with the World's Smallest Christmas Parade. Charles Dickens and his entourage will meander down Fennell Street to Jordan Street to Genesee Street, ending on the porch of the Hannum House.

Dickens Christmas continues every Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m., through Dec. 22, with an abbreviated production (noon to 2:30 p.m.) Dec. 24. The festival will also include annual favorites Chowder Cook-off and Santa’s Arrival, both presented by Maguire Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram & Fiat. Experience a full Victorian Christmas with all the trimmings and trappings. Costumed guides lead candlelit tours of the home, which is decorated in holiday splendor by local florists. As you learn about Christmas traditions of the Sewards, actors will be portraying various members of the family who emerge to share heart-warming holiday memories gleaned from their letters and diaries. The evening ends with timeless carols sung around the family’s 1872 Steinway piano.

For 19 year's, Quick Response has been transforming their property into a magical winter wonderland for the holiday season. It has become a community favorite and this entire event is FREE.

Come visit with Santa and other costume characters. Take a ride on one of their "Quick Express" tractor drawn train rides or enjoy a horse and wagon ride; and children can also enjoy a selection of kiddie rides. Refreshments of cookies, popcorn and hot chocolate will be served at no charge.

For the safety of everyone parking is once again offsite. Please follow the signs and shuttle bus service will bring you to the property.

The 26th annual edition of Dickens Christmas opens at noon, Nov. 29, with the World's Smallest Christmas Parade. Charles Dickens and his entourage will meander down Fennell Street to Jordan Street to Genesee Street, ending on the porch of the Hannum House.

Dickens Christmas continues every Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m., through Dec. 22, with an abbreviated production (noon to 2:30 p.m.) Dec. 24. Merriment for the whole family: scenes from "A Christmas Carol," sing-alongs, musical and other entertainment, horse-drawn carriage rides, and appearances by Queen Victoria, Scrooge, Father Christmas, Mother Goose and a cast of 70. The train is beautifully decorated from the lights strung along the outside to the garland and ornaments on the inside. Enjoy an afternoon train ride with Santa and Mrs. Claus and their helpers. There will be Holiday music, goodies and refreshments for everyone’s enjoyment. The ride runs about 2 ½ hours and reservations are required. Children younger than 3 are Free! Experience a full Victorian Christmas with all the trimmings and trappings. Costumed guides lead candlelit tours of the home, which is decorated in holiday splendor by local florists. As you learn about Christmas traditions of the Sewards, actors will be portraying various members of the family who emerge to share heart-warming holiday memories gleaned from their letters and diaries. The evening ends with timeless carols sung around the family’s 1872 Steinway piano.

The 26th annual edition of Dickens Christmas opens at noon, Nov. 29, with the World's Smallest Christmas Parade. Charles Dickens and his entourage will meander down Fennell Street to Jordan Street to Genesee Street, ending on the porch of the Hannum House.

Dickens Christmas continues every Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m., through Dec. 22, with an abbreviated production (noon to 2:30 p.m.) Dec. 24. Merriment for the whole family: scenes from "A Christmas Carol," sing-alongs, musical and other entertainment, horse-drawn carriage rides, and appearances by Queen Victoria, Scrooge, Father Christmas, Mother Goose and a cast of 70. The 26th annual edition of Dickens Christmas opens at noon, Nov. 29, with the World's Smallest Christmas Parade. Charles Dickens and his entourage will meander down Fennell Street to Jordan Street to Genesee Street, ending on the porch of the Hannum House.

Dickens Christmas continues every Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m., through Dec. 22, with an abbreviated production (noon to 2:30 p.m.) Dec. 24. Merriment for the whole family: scenes from "A Christmas Carol," sing-alongs, musical and other entertainment, horse-drawn carriage rides, and appearances by Queen Victoria, Scrooge, Father Christmas, Mother Goose and a cast of 70.
