Founded in 1972, Steely Dan has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide and helped define the soundtrack of the '70s with hits such as "Reelin' in the Years," "Rikki Don't Lose That Number," "F.M.," "Peg," and more from their seven platinum albums issued between 1972 and 1980 – including 1977's sold-out tours (that continue through today). Steely Dan was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

The home of peppermint oil, this small hometown festival in Lyons has been growing each year and features vendors, food, a parade and a huge firework show on Saturday evening.

The Peppermint Story:
In 1839, Hiram G. Hotchkiss founded The Hotchkiss, International Prize Medal, and Essential Oil Co. in Lyons and by 1844 Hotchkiss, employed more than 100 people and produced more than 1,000 pounds of oil annually. By 1860, Mr. Hotchkiss produced more than 1/3 of the Peppermint Oil in the United States and owned over 100 acres of Peppermint fields in Lyons. Mr. Hotchkiss was so internationally renowned as the leader of the peppermint oil industry that he was often called the Peppermint King!

Cayuga Lake Triathlon

Cayuga Lake Triathlon (CLT) is organized by the Ithaca Triathlon Club and is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event. Taughannock Falls State Park, about 8 miles north of Ithaca, provides a picturesque setting for the whole family to enjoy the triathlon, along with public swimming, a playground, shaded picnic areas and hiking trails. Tent, RV and cabin camping is available, and the Park maintains a marina with a boat ramp for access to Cayuga Lake.

Begin the race with a swim in one of the crown jewels of the region, the refreshingly cool waters of Cayuga Lake. You’ll bike along scenic rolling hills with spectacular lake views. You’ll finish with a run near the shore, through the shaded and magnificent gorge trail to Taughannock Falls, the highest water fall in the Northeast at 215 feet.

Races include Intermediate, Sprint, Youth and Kids.

“Joe” was a member of the Seneca Nation's Snipe Clan and was born on the Cattaraugus Territory. He was a member of the Iroquois Post #1587 and served in several positions with them. He started serving in the military in 1950 with serving two tours of duty during the Korean War and also served in the Vietnam War. During his active duty in the Navy, he served on eight warships, including the U. S. S. Little Rock. He retired in 1997. Throughout his career, he earned numerous honors.

The annual Syracuse New Times Street Painting Festival festival draws local artists downtown to create magnificent works of chalk art along the city sidewalks.

Create your own masterpiece in chalk on the sidewalks of downtown Syracuse – all ages are invited to participate. Pick a numbered section of the sidewalk on Montgomery Street and sign in at the New Times booth to begin. The spaces are first-come, first-served, so make sure to stop by early!

This fun event also runs as a contest to see who can create the best piece of chalk art, with more than $150 in cash prizes up for grabs to the winners in each division: Youth (12 and under), Teens (13-17) and Adults (18 and older).
