"Requiem" was written in memory of the Italian writer Giuseppe Verdi greatly admired who had a great influence on Italian Romanticism, Alessandro Manzoni. It received its premiere on the first anniversary of Manzoni’s death at the San Marco Church in Milan, conducted by Verdi himself. The powerful “Libera me” movement which draws the work to a close was originally composed by Verdi as part of an unsuccessful project he led to write "Massa Per of Rossini" with 12 other composers, in memory of Rossini shortly after his passing. After its premiere, the Requiem was quickly noticed and performed in concert halls around the world, which was generally unusual for religious music.

The Frederic Remington Art Museum will once again open it’s doors for a fun, interactive murder mystery performance on Saturday, April 6th featuring members of the well-known North Country theatre troupe, The Grasse River Players.

The Remington is partnering with The Grasse River Players, who will bring their Dinner Murder Company to present “Death of a Cloudpainter” written by Arthur L. Johnson. Advance tickets are available for this extraordinary event to be held at the Frederic Remington Art Museum, at 311 Washington St., Ogdensburg. The performance begins at 6 p.m.

Set at the Florian Wishwell Memorial Gallery in downtown Pratt Falls, NY, an enjoyable evening celebration of the art of the local painter Rockwell Norman takes unexpected turn. It will take all the museum's guests to figure out who is responsible.


Actors will mingle in character with guests over cocktails and finger food, dropping hints of their checkered pasts. As the performance continues, guests will continue to enjoy drinks and try to identify the culprit. One correct super sleuth will receive a mystery prize for their great detective work in exposing the murderer. The night includes delicious food prepared by Cam's Pizzeria and a cash bar provided by Hosmer's Marina.

The H. Lee White Maritime Museum at Oswego is pleased to present “The U.S. Life-Saving Service in Oswego” as its first installment to the 2019 History Lecture Series featuring Ted Panayotoff, coauthor of Lighthouses & Life-Saving at Oswego and former chairman of the City of Oswego’s Lighthouse Development Committee.

The lecture will feature a brief historical overview of the U.S. Life-Saving Service in Oswego which, as a predecessor of the U.S. Coast Guard, had a presence in Oswego between 1878 and 1915. Panayotoff will also dive further into the people, places, and events of the Life-Saving Service making use of images from Lighthouses & Life Saving at Oswego and other collections near and far. As a former resident of Oswego, Ted was instrumental in the Maritime Museum’s efforts to begin restoring and providing public access to the Oswego West Pierhead Lighthouse. He now resides in South Carolina with his wife Jo, but they often return to Oswego to visit family and friends and to check on the progress of the Lighthouse restoration.

Cher is expected to perform many of her hits along with some new songs from the Dancing Queen album – Cher’s tribute to the music of ABBA – out September 28th. Dancing Queen is currently available for pre-order.

The Oscar, Emmy, Cannes Film Festival and Grammy Award winning icon is scheduled to be honored at the Kennedy Center later this year. She is also co-producer of The Cher Show, the upcoming Broadway musical opening December 3rd and is currently touring Australia and New Zealand. Cher is currently doing a series of residencies in Las Vegas.
