Harriet Tubman Statue Journey to Freedom

“Harriet Tubman: Journey to Freedom,” a 9-foot, 2,400-pound bronze sculpture created by internationally recognized artist Wesley Wofford, will be on display at the Ulster County Office Building, 204 Fair St. in Kingston, from November 1, 2022, through January 2, 2023. One of the highlights of the exhibition is the arrival celebration of the sculpture, which will be installed during a program at the Ulster County Office Building on Tuesday, November 1, from 4:30-6:00 p.m. The installation will be a temporary outdoor exhibit at the County Building and will remain on exhibit until January 2, 2023. In addition, a schedule of events spanning two months is will be presented in partnership with local cultural organizations that will celebrate the legacy of Harriet Tubman. These virtual and in-person programs will happen throughout Kingston and Ulster County and will reflect the themes of activism, role models, heroes, human rights reparations, freedom, resilience, determination, contributions of strong women and equality. Held each year from Thanksgiving through the first week of January, this captivating display of lights features towering holiday displays, larger-than-life Land of Oz, a Twinkling Fantasy Forest, colorful arches, a delightful Victorian Village, animated scenes and more! There is a fee.

Wander into the Wild Center's enchanting, illuminated, winter wonderland to explore the sights and sounds of Wild Lights, presented by Merrill L. Thomas, Inc. More than 130 trees are wrapped in colorful lights that illuminate the forest and will transport you to a winter wonderland while a new musical composition from Whatever Penny creates a magical three-dimension dreamy winter soundscape.
Wild Walk: We’ve strung the award-winning Wild Walk in tens of thousands of lights so you can experience the outdoors like never before. New winter installations provide Instagram-worthy photos and opportunities to create lifelong winter memories.
Stickwork: Patrick Dougherty’s “Hopscotch” glows and provides an opportunity for your imagination to run wild.
Indoors: Warm up inside with hot drinks, food, and an opportunity to check out the Living River Trail (otters included!). Interactive light up pieces like an oversized Lite Brite provides fun for kids and a chance for old school nostalgia for adults.

Stickwork: Patrick Dougherty’s “Hopscotch” glows and provides an opportunity for your imagination to run wild.
Indoors: Warm up inside with hot drinks, food, and an opportunity to check out the Living River Trail (otters included!). Interactive light up pieces like an oversized Lite Brite provides fun for kids and a chance for old school nostalgia for adults.

Wild Walk: We’ve strung the award-winning Wild Walk in tens of thousands of lights so you can experience the outdoors like never before. New winter installations provide Instagram-worthy photos and opportunities to create lifelong winter memories.
Stickwork: Patrick Dougherty’s “Hopscotch” glows and provides an opportunity for your imagination to run wild.
Indoors: Warm up inside with hot drinks, food, and an opportunity to check out the Living River Trail (otters included!). Interactive light up pieces like an oversized Lite Brite provides fun for kids and a chance for old school nostalgia for adults.

Come see the winter skies at their finest! No other area of the sky features as many bright stars, clusters, and nebulae as the area around the constellation Orion. Plus, we will have great views of Jupiter, Mars, Uranus, and Neptune, and MAYBE a peak at Saturn before it sets below the trees. As an added bonus, we may be able to catch a glimpse of Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF), low in the northern sky, which is predicted to come close to naked-eye visibility.

This program is designed for ages 8 and up.

From collecting materials to starting the fire, fire building helps us learn patience and control in a fast paced world. Come learn more about what lessons are written in the flames. We will hike to Philips Cabin to learn how to build a fire, discuss the teachings of the fire, and sip on a rewardingly warm cup of tea or hot cocoa.
This program is designed for ages 10 and up.
Please dress for the weather. This hike will include two small hills.
Snowshoes will be provided if necessary.
