Washington Park comes alive with a spectacular display of Christmas-themed light art installations. Drive through the park and be prepared to be mesmerized by the massive colorful, blinking Santas, reindeer, nutcracker dolls, and more.

In addition to the drive, folks willing to brave the cold can attend special Charity Walk Nights around the theme of “Taste of the Holidays.” One night involves sampling wine and beer while enjoying live music, and another will feature artisan craft offerings from Albany’s restaurants.

At the end of your drive through the Lights, visit Washington Park Lake House to join your favorite reindeer and friends as they bring fun and mystery to the holiday season. The Lake House is filled with crafts and refreshments and Santa will be there through Dec. 23.

Gangstagrass Kicks off the Music Hall New Year

In existence for more than 30 years, the Oswego Music Hall offers mostly acoustical musicians every other Saturday night from September to June. On concert evenings, a large empty hall is transformed into an intimate venue replete with candlelit tables, professional staging and sound; as well as an array of freshly baked desserts, hot cider and freshly brewed coffee.

On Jan. 11, Hip Hop meets Bluegrass with the debut performance of Gangstagrass. Prior to the concert, the public is invited to a “Meet & Greet” reception at 6:30. The wheelchair accessible venue is the McCrobie Civic Center, 41 Lake Street in Oswego.
“The Brooklyn group brings together rappers and pickers to create music as steeped in Appalachia as it is in beats and lyrical flow. By the end of their set the members of Gangstagrass succeeded in igniting a full-on dance party and showing that the melding of hip-hop and bluegrass can be done proper. The Music Hall is a non-profit organization that has been run entirely by volunteers from its inception in 1978. Volunteers can earn admission to shows through various tasks— from running the sound board to making popcorn. Students can also earn credit for community service. Concerts are made possible in part with funding by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.

Born and raised in Hawaii of hapa Samoan descent, Taimane is renowned for both her pyrotechnics on the four-string island staple and prowess in using music and movement to paint vibrant images that elicit deep emotional response. Charismatic Stage Presence of Matt Nakoa on Piano and Guitar at the Oswego Music Hall

In existence for more than 30 years, the Oswego Music Hall offers mostly acoustical musicians every other Saturday night from September to June. On concert evenings, a large empty hall is transformed into an intimate venue replete with candlelit tables, professional staging and sound; as well as an array of freshly baked desserts, hot cider and freshly brewed coffee. This is a wheelchair accessible venue.

On January 25, Matt Nakoa takes to the National Stage at the Oswego Music Hall at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Nakoa grew up on a small goat farm in Smyrna, NY and began composing music as a teenager. Following a formative stint as a classical pianist, Matt won a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Matt has earned many songwriting awards, including a win at Kerrville Folk Festival’s prestigious New Folk Competition. Additionally, Matt’s piano music has received favorable reviews in publications including The New York Times, and his film scoring has been featured by Disney. Matt now tours internationally, recently performing at The White House, throughout India, and regularly with folk music icon Tom Rush.

The Music Hall is a non-profit organization that has been run entirely by volunteers from its inception in 1978. Volunteers can earn admission to shows through various tasks— from running the sound board to making popcorn. Students can also earn credit for community service. Concerts are made possible in part with funding by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.

The biggest party on snow now is a Run for Your Favorite Charity! Mass Race Start at 10:30 a.m. with Registration opening at 8:30 and closing 15 minutes prior to race start.

Stone Wall goes charitable for 2020, awarding teams donations to their favorite charities. The team with the most participants will win the GRAND PRIZE - A $1,000 donation to their favorite charity. If your team isn't the biggest - you still come away a winner, as $10 of each team member's race entry fee will be donated to the team's chosen charity. The bigger the team, the bigger the donation.

Lumagination transforms the Buffalo Botanical Gardens into a magical world with state-of-the-art lighting and sound technology that will excite the imagination and stimulate the senses of all ages! Colorful special-effects, pieces of art, waterfalls, and thematic creations transform the familiar botanical gardens into something entirely different.

The visionary tour through the magical world of Lumagination takes guests on a tour of the greenhouses, each with their own theme enhanced by light and sound. This year's theme provides an aquatic “under-the-sea” experience where over-sized coral will decorate the Main Palm Dome giving visitors the feeling of walking the sea floor as fish are projected onto the ceiling above. The Aquatic Garden and Asia Rainforest will be laced with paper jellyfish and intricate lighting designs, while glow-in-the-dark plankton will illuminate the Desert Room. Other greenhouses display beautiful glass coral sculptures, optical rugs, and “sea aliens.” The Wegmans Family will offer interactive fun for children of all ages.

Families are invited to enjoy an evening at Saratoga Spa State Park’s CANdlelight Ski and Snowshoe fundraiser event. Admission is a minimum of two canned food items. In addition to a candlelit loop, the park will be offering a bonfire and hot drinks. This event will take place at the Warming Hut, near the Route 9/Avenue of Pines entrance to the park.Inclement weather or poor trail conditions will cancel this event. Food will be donated to the Franklin Community Center Food Pantry.
