Hudson Highlands' highest peak, Beacon Mountain offers two summits, hiking trails, a fire lookout tower and monument and the ruins of the Mount Beacon Incline Railway, the steepest railway in the world during its operation.

While closed to vehicular traffic, hiker and dog lovers (leashes required) can also enjoy birdwatching and wildlife as they mount the summit trails, rewarded with spectacular views in any direction. In the winter the trails can be used for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
