It was in this Adirondack Cottage that Gen. Ulysses S. Grant died of throat cancer on July 23, 1885. He had arrived at the cottage from New York City on June 16, 1885, and used the short time he had left to complete his memoirs.

The cottage today is essentially the same as during the Grant family's stay and visitors can tour the downstairs, viewing the original furnishings, decorations and personal items belonging to Grant, including the bed where he died. Also on display is the floral arrangements from Grant's August 4th funeral and the clock that was at the cottage, stopped at 8:08am by Frederick Dent Grant, who then reached over and touched his father's forehead for the last time.
