Woodstock
Best know for memories of the nearby '69 Festival, this arts community has been creating music festivals since the early 1900s along with all other forms of art.
Welcome to Woodstock, the Artistic Colony in NY State.
"Many know Woodstock, NY for the nearby memories of the 69 Festival. Not so many know this arts community has been creating music festivals since the early 1900s along with all other forms of art. Woodstock has unique shops, galleries and fine dining and has many outdoor activities including excellent hiking."
The very name of Woodstock most likely evokes memories or stories of the famous rock music concert and festival held in August, 1969. The Woodstock Music and Art Festival, however, actually took place about 60 miles west on the 600-acre Yasker's dairy farm in the town of Bethel. The festival was called “Woodstock” because the investment group that backed the concert was called “Woodstock Ventures.”
But Woodstock today continues to hold onto that late 1960s hippie vibe, often said that “old hippies don’t die, they just go to Woodstock.” In this historic little hamlet, you will have no trouble finding a drum circle to join, reiki practitioners, yoga lessons, journal-writing classes and mind-body healers. You can also get one with nature with the hiking, biking and many outdoor adventure options its surrounds provide.
The town is Home to a thriving arts scene, this community has been creating music festivals since the early 1900s along with all other forms of art. A saunter down its main corridor, Tinker Street, will surround you with tie dye, flea markets, eclectic shops and art galleries teeming with pottery, paintings, jewelry, photography and more.
And let’s not forget about Woodstock’s culinary diversity. From upscale farm-to-table to comfort food, from an artisanal creamery to organic vegan, Woodstock is sure you will find a dining experience to suit your taste. Complement your relaxing and tranquil day by a enjoying a restful evening in one of Woodstock’s cozy and peaceful inns, bed-and-breakfast or hotel.
The laidback Woodstock is defined by its love of the arts – in particular, folk and rock music – its infatuation with Eastern religions and a sincere appreciation of nature’s serene and peaceful beauty. In fact, Woodstock Town’s homepage invites you to enjoy its quiet beauty but politely requests that while you are there, “please do not make noise.” How groovy is that?
