Plan an Angling Weekend in Western NY: Craft Beer, Great Fishing & More

posted by Chautauqua County at 2023-08-07 21:24:00

Acraft beer and fishing pole are all you need for the ultimate weekend getaway in the Chautauqua Lake Erie Region of Western NY. World Class fishing  is available on all five area lakes and waterways. Anglers can experience year-round bass fishing opportunities with bass being found along the entire shoreline of New York state with hotspots along rocky drop-offs. Trophy size walleye can be found in the deep waters of the eastern basin of Lake Erie. During spring and fall, wade through the tributary streams of Lake Erie for Steelhead season, an annual run of migratory rainbow trout. Cast your line on the inland lakes of Chautauqua Lake, Cassadaga Lakes, Findley Lake and Bear Lake for the chance to reel in the elusive Muskie as well as walleye, bass, perch, and panfish.

Bring your own boat and utilize public boat launches available on all lakes throughout the region, while full-service marinas are available exclusively on Chautauqua Lake and Lake Erie. Boat rentals from local marinas are also available with pricing based on half day, full day and multi day rates. Visitors need a valid driver’s license to rent power and pontoon boats as well as certain non-motorized watercrafts. Chartering a fishing expedition  for your group is another great way to experience the top-notch fishing in Chautauqua County.

Unwind after a day on the water with a craft beverage from a local brewery or distillery  including the original location of Southern Tier Brewing Company, now one of the largest craft-makers in the nation. Visit Mazza Chautauqua Cellar/Five & 20 Spirits and Brewing to have your fill of beer, wine, and liquor at New York State’s first combined brewery, winery and distillery. Most weekends you can pair live music and local food vendors with tasty brews at Big Inlet Brewing. Experience both locations of Ellicottville Brewing Company. Check out EBC West in Fredonia for a fun urban vibe close to the town’s vibrant nightlife or raise a glass at their lakeside location in Bemus Point. Dine at local restaurants for the chance to try other locally made brews available on tap. Prefer wine over beer? Taste wine from over 20 wineries  on a 50-mile trail along the coast of Lake Erie collectively known as Lake Erie Wine Country.
