Enjoy a Unique Sweet Treat from Oliver’s Candies in Batavia

posted by Teresa Farrell at 2022-07-06 04:31:00

This summer, don’t miss a sweet experience that will tickle your taste buds: a trip to Oliver’s Candies. This simple shop, located in Batavia (between Rochester and Buffalo) is anything but ordinary. It’s celebrating its 90th year in business this year, and it only takes a taste to figure out why.

Oliver’s Candies is known for their specialty chocolate and candies, made from unique recipes dating back to its earliest days. It’s not just regular chocolate; made with a very specific process and the highest quality ingredients, the special blend of chocolate from Oliver’s is known for being a cut above the rest, a unique treat that inspires even first-timers to keep coming back for more.

The shop was first opened in 1932 by Joseph Boyd Oliver, who got started creating candy by blanching peanuts at home and experimenting on recipes and formulas to make the perfect confections, which he then went out to sell at gas stations and stores. He and his wife Edna ran the shop until 1960; by then, it had become famous in its own right for its unique, high-quality array of chocolates and candies, throughout Western New York and beyond. When they sold the business, the new owners promised to keep up the same standards of quality that Oliver’s had become known (and loved) for, and they’ve done just that.

Today, the Quincey family owns Oliver’s Candies. The store has been upgraded and remodeled to its current chalet style, and there are plenty of newer selections on the menu, but the quality has remained the same as it was in 1932—the best. They still make their candies and chocolates with the original family recipes that made this place famous, and pride themselves on using only the best ingredients—real butter, cream, honey, and more.

Everything is made fresh, in-house, in small batches, to ensure it’s always fresh and delicious. Oliver’s Candies meets directly with the companies they purchase cocoa beans and other ingredients from, and test each of the ingredients that undergo their unique blending process to create the flavors Oliver’s is known for.

The quality extends to the full lineup of candy flavors at Oliver’s: from sponge candy and peanut clusters to French creams and Hostess squares to traditional boxed chocolates to chewy treats like licorice and gummies—and even no sugar added options—there is a staggering variety to choose from, all of it lovingly crafted to the highest standards.

Oliver’s Candies doesn’t stop at the candy, though; they also serve up 18 flavors of ice cream with fresh, homemade whipped cream, and their on-site country store offers unique gifts and souvenirs, a full range of local products, and even Oliver’s own coffee blend.

They also offer custom gift baskets, wedding and party favors, and gifts cards. You can even shop online; the Oliver’s Candies website has all their options, so once you’ve tried it and joined the legions of Oliver’s Candies fans around Upstate New York, it’ll be easy to place an order for more.
