Follow the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail in the Hudson Valley
Surrounded by picturesque streams, hillsides, and forest, the trail runs directly through the heart of New Paltz and brings trail visitors through several historic districts..
The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail is a 23.7-mile rail trail and linear park that runs along the former Wallkill Valley Railroad rail. Surrounded by picturesque streams, hillsides, and forest, the trail runs directly through the heart of New Paltz before continuing on to the neighboring towns of Gardiner, Rosendale, and Kingston, bringing trail visitors through several historic districts.
Open year-round from dawn to dusk, the trail surface is an unpaved stone and can be enjoyed by walking, jogging, bike riding, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing.
The walkway north from Rosendale through Ulster to Kingston brings visitors to Rosendale trestle, a 940-foot (290 m) bridge across the Rondout Creek. The longest bridge on the trail, the trestle is even more notable due to the panoramic views it offers.
