Dubbed the “Birthplace of the State of New York,” White Plains is only 27 miles north of Manhattan and boasts Westchester's largest walkable downtown center featuring numerous shops and restaurants as well as playing host to events throughout the year.

Influenced by its proximity to New York City, White Plains' downtown area turned into a "destination" shopping district following World War II, becoming home to branch stores of many famous New York-based department and specialty stores. Today, White Plains continues to be a huge shopping destination in the area attracting shoppers to popular anchor stores like Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom along with more than 1,000 small and mid-size stores throughout five malls.

But White Plains is not just a shopping mecca. While here, history can be discovered at the White Plains Armory, a monument commemorating the first public reading in New York of the Declaration of Independence, or the Jacob Purdy House, a circa-1720 farmhouse that was used during the Revolutionary War by General George Washington as a headquarters command post.

After you get your history fix, grab dinner and drinks at one of the city’s casual or fine dining restaurants or one of the many taverns or brewpubs. Then enjoy a show at the White Plains Performing Arts Center, an intimate theater with an eclectic mix of plays, music and original productions. And with world-class hotels like the Ritz-Carlton New York/Westchester, the Crowne Plaza or Cambria Hotel, music, theater and a lively nightlife, White Plains has everything you need for an exciting getaway.

And if you are bringing the kids, you will be happy to know that the amazing LEGOLAND Discovery Center is only 12.8 miles south of White Plains!
