Cascadilla Gorge Trail
Cascadilla Creek drops 400 feet past 9 waterfalls, the first of which is the picturesque Cascadilla Falls, a 20-foot multiple cascading fall
Donated to Cornell University by Robert H. Treman in 1909 for educational and preservational purposes, the Cascadilla Gorge Trail system is a popular gorge trail that connects Cornell University to downtown. The creek, which also flows from campus to downtown Ithaca, has carved its way through bedrock exposing sedimentary rocks deposited 400 million years ago.
The gorge walk is 1.3 miles with many stairs and along the way, Cascadilla Creek drops 400 feet past 9 waterfalls, the first of which is the picturesque Cascadilla Falls, a 20-foot multiple cascading fall.
The lower section, which closes during the winter months, shows off the "gorges" display of rock, water and trees.
