Washington County Grasslands Wildlife Management Area (WMA) encompasses nearly 300 acres of prime grassland habitat, providing a great opportunity for wildlife watching, hunting, trapping and hiking.

The area is managed by New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and supports almost a dozen threatened and rapidly declining grassland bird species. Common sightings include the Short-eared owl, Northern harrier, American kestrel and Eastern meadowlark while flocks of Snowy owls and Snow buntings can be spotted during winter.

A half mile trail just past the kiosk leads into the open and cresting a grassy knoll while a viewing platform offers great views of the surrounding fields and hills to the east.

Leashed pets are welcome.

NOTE: Parking and the trailhead are accessed from Blackhouse Road, on the east side of the road just west of the intersection with CR 46.
