High Falls Gorge
Behold four stunning waterfalls as they cascade over rocks into a deep crevice carved millions of years ago
Just a short drive from Lake Placid, this 22-acre, privately owned nature park, High Falls Gorge, is one of the Adirondacks' most breathtaking year-round hikes. Behold four stunning waterfalls as they cascade over rocks into a deep crevice carved millions of years ago, hike the nature trail and learn or mine for gemstones, arrowheads and ancient fossils at the Ausable River Mining Co.
High Falls Gorge is accessible to all ages and has sturdy bridges, glass floor walkways and groomed paths and hiking trails. There is even a quarter-mile round trip that is a wheelchair accessible path and brings guests to the center of the falls. During winter, rent snowshoes or Yaktrax and set out on the walking and hiking trails to experience the spectacular ice formations.
After your hike, grab a bite to eat at the River View Cafe at High Falls Gorge while sipping regional craft beer or an award-winning New York State wines. And don’t forget to peruse the gift shop full of items that reflect the beauty and nature of High Falls Gorge and the Adirondacks.
