Located on 26 acres of land in Auburn, the Harriet Tubman Home preserves the legacy of "The Moses of Her People" in the place where she lived and died in freedom. In 1886, Tubman's house was destroyed by fire and Nelson Davis, Tubman’s second husband, helped rebuild her home, replacing the original wood structure with brick.

In order to fulfill her dream to build a home for the elderly, Tubman bought at auction 25 acres of land adjacent to her property  in 1896. The AME Zion Church raised funds and with the support of a local bank providing a mortgage, Tubman was able to complete the transaction.

Owned and operated today by the AME Zion Church, the property includes four buildings, two of which were used by Harriet Tubman.
